Baring any unforeseen circumstances, the Umuguma road in Owerri-west may be completed in a couple of months with the current pace of work.
The site Engineer, Engr Fouad of GlOBAL ENCO NIG LTD, disclosed this while fielding questions from the Executive Chairman of Owerri-west, Hon Chief Victor Nnamdi Osigwe, Ikeoha, who called to see things for himself.
Engr Fouad disclosed that he was given a mandate to deliver a road that will stand the test of time hence the ongoing quality work.
According to him, "the ongoing pre-casting will be about 14 inches thick after which the asphalting that would follow is expected to bring the total thickness of the road to 18 inches".
Engr Fouad further explained that the Executive Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma had also directed that the road construction work on reaching the Orieukwu market Umuguma should be extended two kilometers towards Avu road, zero in into the Council headquarters as well as another two kilometers towards the Umuguma Police station road.
In an answer to a question, the Engineer averred that the road would at least last for about seventy years before having issues.
In his remarks, the Council Chief Executive, Hon Chief Victor Nnamdi Osigwe, paid glowing tributes to the State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, for having a listening ear to the yearnings of commuters on that road.
While commending the Construction Company for what he saw, Osigwe recalled with nostalgia the pressure he mounted on the State government concerning the dangers Umuguma people and commuters had faced using that road and heaved a sigh of relief that at last there was respite.
He appealed to road users to exercise some restraints while plying the road so as not to distort the work in progress.
The Executive Chairman was accompanied by his Chief of Protocol, Prince
Chibueze Oparanozie during the visit.
