AMAKOHIA-UBI OWERRI-WEST FIGHTS CULTISM
By Innocent Osuoha.
The Amakohia-Ubi autonomous Community under the auspices of Amakohia-ubi Community Development Union has set in motion a machinery to combat cultism in the area.
According to a release by the Community's National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Eleazar Akuwudike and endorsed by the President-General Sir Engr Kevin Akanador, the decision to tackle cultism in the Community was part of the Easter National Conference resolution.
The release said the Community had wanted to take a more stringent action but had to soft pedal following pleadings by parents and relatives of suspected cultists which made the Town Union Executive to review her initial stand and gave the decision a human face so as to enhance a change of heart in those affected.
In a chat with this Reporter, Sir Engr Kevin Akanador said the Community had to open a window to enable those listed as suspected cultists to come forward on Sunday, April 12th 2026, by 3pm at the Cabinet office to denounce their cultism membership.
The President-General disclosed that the suspects would sign a memorandum
to be of good behaviour.
An investigation by this Reporter reveals that the window is an opportunity to encourage positive change and restore peace, safety, and order within the community.
The implication is that anyone who failed to avail himself/ herself of this opportunity would remain wanted until arrested and handed over to law enforcement agencies for prosecution.
Anyone so arrested would be arraigned in court and no amount of pleadings would be entertained.
However, those coming to denounce their membership of cultism must mandatorily come with their parents or guardians who would sign as surety.
