MEET THE NEW ACTING INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE – OLATUNJI RIDWAN DISU
The recently appointed new Inspector General of Police, though on acting capacity is a full blooded lagosian.
As at the time of filing this report, it was not easy getting his date of birth but he joined the Police Force on the 18th of May 1992 as an Assistant Superintendent of Police(ASP) from where he rose to the ranks.
The new IGP, Olatunji Ridwan Disu, before now was the Assistant Inspector-General of police (AIG)
in charge of Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos.
He had earlier worked as the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG)
Special Protection Unit (SPU), Force Headquarters, Abuja between March 2025 to February 2026.
Between October 2024 to March 2025, he was of the FCT Police Command having earlier served as the Rivers State Police Commissioner ( November 2023/ October 2024).
IGP Disu was Commissioner of Police, Admin and Intelligence, Force Intelligence Bureau (FIB) (March 2023/ June 2023)
As a Deputy Commissioner of Police, he had headed the Intelligence Response Team (IRT)(August 2021/March 2023) and served as the Admin Operations, Force Headquarters in 2021.
He was the Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) Lagos( 2015/2021)
Between 2024/2025, he was the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Criminal Investigation Department, in Rivers State having served earlier as the Officer in Charge, Anti-Kidnapping Rivers State.
Disu who rose through the ranks was the Officer in Charge, Special Anti-Robbery Squad for Ondo and Oyo Stated between 2011/2014.
He was the Divisional Police Officer, Ondo State(2007/2013), and before then, the Officer in Charge Training, Nigerian Police Peace–Keeping Department(2006/2007) and former
Directing Staff, Nigerian Police Academy, Kano in 2005.
In 1999, the new Acting Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Ridwan Disu was the Aide-De-Camp (ADC) to the former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, now the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The new IGP was once the Officer in Charge, Anti-Fraud State Criminal Investigation Department, Katsina(1993/1998).
