IMO NORTH SENATE: CHIEF EMMANUEL OKEWULONU(IKEOHA IS EMINENT.
By Innocent Osuoha.
Whenever one is expectant, the calendar appears to be dragging but certainly that date must come to pass but to a core Nigerian Politician, especially those spoiling for Saturday, 16th January, 2027, elections, the date is "tomorrow" and they begin on time to prepare.
For purposes of clarity, the above quoted date is for the Presidential and National elections.
Apart from the Guber position where politicians from Owerri and Okigwe zones are jostling to succeed the incumbent, struggles are also hotly on, at other zones, as the Politicians from there are eyeing one position or the other.
One of the zones that may not witness serious contest is the Okigwe zone for the Imo North Senate seat. Reason, the people have already made their choice.
The Okigwe zone comprises six LGAs- Obowu, Okigwe, Ehime Mbano, Isiala Mbano, Onuimo, Okigwe and Ihitte Uboma.
. Talking of the Imo North Senate, which is the reason for this piece, there has been an informal zoning arrangement but the "gentleman mantra" is not ruled out. It becomes pertinent, therefore, to take a retrospective look at who and who that have served and when for the Imo North Senate seat since 1999.
First was Senator Emeka Echeruo from Ehime Mbano LGA served from 1979 to 1983 followed by Senator B.C. Agunanne( Isiala Mbano, LGA1992-1993).
Senator Ifeanyi Godwin Ararume from Isiala Mbano LGA was on the saddle between 1999 to 2007. He was however to serve again from 2020-2023 and was succeeded by Senator Sylvester Anyanwu from Obowo LGA between 2007 to 2011.
Senator Matthew Ifeanyi Nwagwu from Obowo LGA served from 2011-2015, Senator Athan Achonu, Ehime Mbano LGA, 2015-2016; Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu, Ihitte-Uboma LGA, 2016-2019 whileSenator Frank Ibezim from Ehime Mbano LGA occupied the seat from 2019-2023. The current seat occupier is Senator Patrick Chiwuba Ndubueze, who was elected in 2023.
Now the occupation doors are open again and one man that is eminent and standing out is Chief Emmanuel Okewulonu(IKEOHA) from Obowo.
Granted that Obowo may not be one of the biggest LGA, it has an active political base and already has the history of producing strong political juggernauts like the two former Senators and this gives IKEOHA a solid home foundation.
There's no gainsaying the fact that a Senate seat cannot be won by one LGA alone as such a contestant would need a strong support across the entire senatorial district. Bi
Recall that Chief Emmanuel Okewulonu, IKEOHA, in 2023 shocked the zone when he won 4 LGAs out of 5 where voting actually held.
IKEOHA is the man to beat because he has a solid party structure and would leverage on his popularity and good relations with party officials.
His entry into ADC and given his good alliances and grassroots goodwill which are beyond his base are all to his credit.
He has a big chance as he has continued to impact on lives , engages the youths and bankrolls his new party.
He commands a tremendous goodwill with the people and his party, ADC, knows that he commands a good financial war chest and wouldn’t depend on the party to promote his campaign as all he needs is just sincere support.
Definitely, Chief Emmanuel Okewulonu, IKEOHA, will do it differently.
In making up their minds for a choice, the people of Okigwe should always remember that politicians have come to dine and whine with them but with no revolutionary change in the zone.
From the look of things, Okigwe people have become politically lethargic with the question “who will be better, when he comes and what will change?”.
The answer is not far fetched as Chief Emmanuel Okewulonu (Ikeoha), the Eagle is the answer.
He should be given the mandate because he will approach the Senate with a mindset Okigwe has waited too long to see.
IKEOHA will bring to the table a reacheable and approachable difference if given a chance. He understands that representation is not seasonal; it is constant engagement with communities, traditional institutions, youth groups, and professionals whose ideas often never reach Abuja.
If voted a Senator, he will push targeted legislation that speaks directly to Okigwe’s realities, rural road networks, erosion control, agricultural value chains, and youth employment.
He will not chase vague national headlines, he will focus on budgetary relevance, ensuring Okigwe projects are not only captured but defended, monitored, and delivered.
Ikeoha will also leverage strategic partnerships, federal agencies, private investors, and development institutions to unlock Okigwe’s agricultural and human potential. His emphasis on accountability will restore trust, while his calm and principled politics will attract respect across party lines.
Above all, with Ikeoha as Senator, the entire constituency will no longer be remembered only during elections, but felt in policy, projects, and progress.
Behold the Eagle will land with a change and difference. Ikeoha is eminent.
