By Innocent Osuoha.
The Executive Chairman of the Owerri-west LGA, Hon Chief Victor Nnamdi Osigwe, IKEOHA, has endorsed the newly elected Avu Ancient Kingdom Town Union eleven-man Executive led by Hon Chibuzo Akurunwa.
Speaking at a forum in his office while receiving the elected officers, Hon Osigwe regretted that the Avu Ancient Kingdom Town Union election had been contentious for a while and thanked God that at last one has been held peacefully.
He was bitter that it was clear some indigenes in the area fanned embers of discord and commended the Venerable Benjamin Nwaneri-led electoral Committee for a job well done in spite of all obstacles.
Ikeoha then charged all Town Union Executives in the area to carry their traditional rulers along in whatever they do while advising traditional rulers to steer clear from Town Union politics and allow majority opinions prevail at all times.
According to Ikeoha, " in all issues, the Council would be impartial but let it be noted that under my watch, there will be no appointments into Town Unions as it must be through elections".
While moderating the forum, the SECLOG as well as an Avu indigene, Hon Sir Fidel Onyeneke, thanked the Council Chairman for his efforts in restoring peace in Avu Community.
In a remark, a Community leader in Owerri-west, Commodore Ogechi Osuagwu(rtd) spoke of the need for Town Unions to synergize with the traditional rulers in their Communities so as not to stalemate development in their Communities.
He urged the new Exco to recover the Community and hit the land running.
Earlier, the Chairman of the electoral Committee, Venerable Benjamin Nwaneri said they came to present the new Exco to the Council boss and thank him for allowing them serve.
The new Avu Ancient Kingdom Town Union President, Hon Akurunwa who had earlier pledged his Exco's loyalty to the Council boss promised to carry everybody along and thanked Avu people for deeming him worthy to serve.
