IKEOHA INAUGURATES AVU TOWN UNION ELECTORAL COMMITTEE.

The Executive Chairman of the Owerri-west LGA, Hon Chief Victor Nnamdi Osigwe (IKEOHA) has inaugurated an electoral Committee to conduct a credible election into the Avu Town Union.
Before inaugurating the Ven Ben Nwaneri-led Committee in his office at Council headquarters, Umuguma, the Executive Chairman of the Council Hon Chief Victor Nnamdi Osigwe, Ikeoha, and the Committee had an extensive forum during which the election modalities were agreed upon.
Parts of the modalities were, that the Council in conjunction with the State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs would supervise the election slated for Saturday, the 11th of April,2026 at Avu.
The forum agreed that by the inauguration of the Committee all arrangements concerning the Avu Town Union's election are declared null and void.
To ensure a credible election the Option A4 voting system would be adopted and only indigenes who have attained the age of 36 years and upwards would be eligible to vote and be voted for.
The forum agreed that there would be no zoning arrangement implying that the exercise is open provided one was within the age bracket
Hon Osigwe then urged the Committee to ensure each village produced a register of eligible voters adding that only those registered would be allowed to participate in the exercise.
He used the occasion to restate the cordial relationship between himself and their traditional ruler, Eze Mike Okere and appealed to the Committee to mandatorily carry the traditional ruler along as well as make the election fees affordable, if necessary, so that people are not disenfranchised.
Speaking, an Avu prominent son, who incidentally is the SECLOG of the Council, Sir Dr Fidel Onyeneke, thanked thanked his Principal for delving into the Avu town union affairs which signified his love for Avu people.
He nostalgically appealed to his brethren to ensure they leveraged on the outcome of the forum to give the Community a credible leadership.
Responding, the Committee Chairman, Ven Ben Nwaneri, on behalf of his Secretary, Pastor Onyewuchi Opara and other members, thanked the Council Executive Chairman for his timely intervention, assuring that under God, his Committee would deliver.
Some Aides of the Executive Chairman were present including Hon Pastor Chris Opara, Hon Oliver Emenyeonu, Hon Prince Chibueze Oparanozie and Hon Kelly Onyeka.
